One Word You Don’t Usually Hear Related to Sales Tax

Easy.  I generally don’t hear the word easy related to sales tax. 

I hear complicated, confusing, risky…. Primarily because these words are descriptive of sales tax.  There are marketing people – you know the type – that try to convince us that sales tax is easy, exciting, and fun – kind of like a vacation.  And why not?  Who wouldn’t rather be on vacation than dealing with the complicated sales tax rules from state to state?

The problem though is that if we buy into the belief that we can make sales tax easy we’re fooling ourselves. 

All the glitz, bright lights, and marketing pizazz doesn’t change reality.  It only disguises it for a short period of time.

What eventually surfaces is a risky process that needs to be unwound and fixed.  Essentially….the truth eventually surfaces and we realize that sales tax cannot be solved by pressing the easy button.  It’s complicated, confusing, and risky.
