Sales Tax Outsourcing and Adele

Those of you that read my previous blog, 5 Sales and Use Tax Tips You Can Learn From Britney Spears, will appreciate this latest entry where I tie-in Adele to Sales Tax Outsourcing. (Sometimes it’s hard to make sales tax “hip” and “cool”. But we try.) You know Adele right? She’s only the most popular musician on the planet right now breaking records left and right with her recent album release “25.” Selling more than 3.38 million copies in the first week of her November 20th release, Adele continues to set new records each week and is selling out her first concert in five years, Adele Live 2016, in a matter of minutes.

So what makes Adele so successful?

In a recent internet article Tony Manfred, from Business Insider, asks the same question and poses three simple answers: Adele has talent, Adele has universal appeal, and Adele refuses to adhere to emerging trends. (http://www.businessinsider.com/why-adele-is-popular-2015-11).

I don’t know of anyone (even Adele naysayers) who would argue the natural talent that Adele possesses. Effortless and honest, she knows what her talents are and she focuses her attention and training on her talent to ensure that her next “release” is better than the last. Growing up as a normal British girl with an overwhelming talent, Adele was discovered when a friend posted a video of her singing on Myspace. Adele speaks the universal language of love and heartbreak.  Her ability to relate and transcribe relatable emotion into music only makes her even more appealing to you and I, and everyone else with a heart. Lastly, Adele displays a level of self-confidence in herself and in her talent which allows her to buck the trend when it comes to certain “Hollywood” stereotypes.

Like Adele, TaxConnex has talent, universal appeal, and we refuse to adhere to emerging trends (at least those that have a negative connotation).

First, from a talent perspective – we have been doing sales tax outsourcing longer than most other firms – since 1998 specifically. There are many newcomers in the sales tax industry and many old timers that have added sales tax outsourcing recently. We’ve been perfecting our craft for nearly twenty years.

Our universal appeal is noted by our client retention and satisfaction. We pride ourselves on our responsiveness to customer inquiries and service is part of our culture. We are here to serve people.

Lastly, there are several trends in our industry that I believe are negative – the heavy reliance on technology and shifting the work overseas. Technology has a role, but technology will never replace quality people and will never fully automate sales tax. I also find it interesting when other service providers shift work overseas in search of cheap labor. In my opinion, there are too many nuances and individual decision points to offshore sales tax compliance. Offshoring can be effective when streamlining a well-defined, consistent process. The more decision points that are required, the less successful offshoring will be. Sales tax is riddled with decision points.

So if you are looking for a sales tax outsourcing provider with experience, that puts the client first, and refuses to give in to damaging trends, then look no further.
