Elk River Sales Tax Could Result in Nearly $2 Million a Year

A local sales tax in Elk River, Minnesota will range anywhere from an eighth- to a half-cent and could bring in about $2 million annually.  The sales tax would be on purchases of certain goods in Elk River.  The revenue raised from the local sales tax has not been marked to go towards a certain project yet, but it would most likely go towards the city ice arena or the dredging of Lake Orono.

City of Washington Sees Steady Sales Tax Growth

The city of Washington saw a small growth in sales tax revenue over the past decade.  The general sales tax revenue in the Missouri town has grown $559,415, or 14.9 percent, since 2008.  The capital improvement sales tax and transportation sales tax are both one-half cent and have grown 14.8 percent each.  The sales tax funds a variety of projects and services throughout Washington.  The capital improvement sales tax was renewed in April for eight years, and the transportation sales tax expires in 2030.  The city has seen a steady growth over the past ten years, despite a recession and other slow years for the economy taking place over the time period.
