They are both big news in Massachusetts!  Football season is here and that means that Tom Brady and thetom__brady New England Patriots are spending many days and nights in the “Bay State” gearing up for weekly games; however, for us sales tax enthusiasts what is really hot news in Massachusetts is the new E-File System!

MassTax Connect (MTC) will launch on November 30th for Sales & Use Tax filing and will provide users with 24 hour access to complete sales tax registrations, amend returns electronically, calculate tax, upload using excel and much more.

Massachusetts has indicated on their web site that their newest tax system is a proven technology that will enhance their ability to more effectively and efficiently serve their customers. It will also offer taxpayers a range of benefits that are not currently available on their existing system.

On the MA DOR website the countdown clock is prominently displayed and with just over 60 days to go, Massachusetts knows how to get the party started!   To generate contagious excitement amongst the tax community for the new MTC, the Massachusetts DOR is providing a short tour of the new website and a flyer with the Top 10 Benefits of using the new MTC, as well as increasing the communication on their social media sites regarding the timing of the launch and asking the public to provide feedback about their experience.

For those of us that used to file the Massachusetts return on paper, and watched the transition of the paper filings becoming obsolete, this continues to be exciting. Certainly, most states have e-file systems at this point; however, many are having to redesign and relaunch them to ensure that most if not all tax transactions can be handled online. So the next time that you are checking on the Pats’ score, detour on over to the new MassTax Connect website and show it some love!
