Kansas Sales Tax Changes

A number of changes to sales tax rates in Kansas are set to take place on July 1st, 2018.  Three counties will see their sales taxes change, affecting thirty-two cities and towns.

In addition, three cities are changing their municipal sales taxes.

  • Abilene is reducing their sales tax from 1.1% to 0.75%.  The new overall sales tax for the city will be 8.75%.
  • Attica's sales tax will increase from 1% to 2%.  This will bring the overall sales tax to 8.5%.
  • Sylvia is enacting a new sales tax of 0.5%, bringing their overall rate to 8.5%.

All of this is in addition to changes that were made on April 1st of this year, mostly to city sales taxes.

  • Alden enacted a new sales tax of 1%, for an overall rate of 8.5%.
  • Baxter Springs raised their sales tax from 1% to 2%, for an overall rate of 10%.
  • Danville enacted a new sales tax of 1%, for an overall rate of 7.5%.
  • Herington raised their sales tax from 1.5% to 2.5%.  For Herington in Dickinson County, this results in an overall rate of 10.5%.  Herington in Morris County will have an overall rate of 10%.
  • Palco instituted a new sales tax of 1%, for an overall rate of 8%.
  • Tipton instituted a new sales tax of 1%, for an overall rate of 8.5%.
  • Whitewater enacted a new sales tax of 0.5%, for an overall rate of 7.25%.
  • Cowley County eliminated their 0.25% sales tax.  This affects nine cities, including Winfield and Udall.
  • Finney County raised their sales tax from 1.15% to 1.45%, affecting Garden City and Holcomb.
