It has only been a few short months since South Carolina Department of Revenue announced their new and improved website, originally launched on December 19, 2014, that promised the latest and greatest audience focused platform designed to provide taxpayers a more “delightful” experience.

I’m not sure if you checked out that “upgrade” over the last six months or not…if not, trust me, you did not miss much! Outside of some additional confusion, days of “timing out”, uploading issues, and what I like to call general system issues it worked like a charm…psyche!computer_stree

Fast forward to last week and all of a sudden South Carolina Department of Revenue has a new look and a new attitude! If you haven’t checked it out, navigate on over to https://dor.sc.gov/ and check out the new and improved South Carolina Department of Revenue website. With bright colors and a much more modern look, someone has earned their paycheck! Select the bright orange “business” tab and you are presented with options like filing sales and use tax returns, registering a business, getting additional information on a sales tax notice or an update on your appeal. Could it be that easy? Simply click the “file / pay” link to find out!

If you tried it – you were DENIED the opportunity to experience what I anticipate is going to be one of the best efile website makeovers in the last five years!

Here’s the latest scoop from the South Carolina Department of Revenue website:

COMING SEPTEMBER 2015

MyDORWAY is the new SCDOR taxpayer portal offering one convenient place to register your business, file tax returns, make payments, and view related correspondence.

As of September 2015, taxpayers currently using SCDOR's eServices such as eSales or eWithholding (or ePay for sales and withholding payments) will use MyDORWAY. With the launch of MyDORWAY, eSales and eWithholding will no longer be accessible.

EPay will no longer support sales or withholding payments (Current, Delinquent or Pay Plan) but will remain available for other taxes until the three-year implementation of MyDORWAY is complete. Please note that the ability to schedule payments in advance for the impacted systems and taxes will be effected by this transition. For more information and updates, please visit dor.sc.gov/services/MyDORWAY.

So mark it on your calendar…only one more semi-annual filing, one more quarterly filing, and three more monthly sales and use tax filings before the pain of the South Carolina Department of Revenue’s lackluster efile website is behind us!

Everyone who says they’re simplifying sales tax is still leaving the hardest parts – and the liability – up to you. Rely on sales tax experts to maintain your compliance. Contact TaxConnex to learn what it means when sales tax is all on us.
